UAB is currently involved, as a coordinator or as a participant, in a wide diversity of international cooperation programmes: Alfa Programmes, ERASMUS Intensive Programmes (IP), Tempus, Asia Link, Erasmus Mundus, Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Windows, Comenius,Minerva, Leonardo da Vinci, ERASMUS CurriculumDevelopment (Currently ERASMUS Multilateral Projects), ERASMUS for student/staff mobility.

In addition, UAB is also an active member of the several international networks acting as a institution or by means of its staff members: CRUE (Spanish Rector's Conference); CEURI (Spanish University Committee for International Relations); EUA (European University Association); ECIU (European Consortium of Innovative Universities); EAIE (European Association for International Education); IAU (International Association of Universities); IAUP (International Association of University Presidents); NAFSA (Association of International Educators); VIU (Venice International University); ESMU/Humane (European Centre for Strategic Management of Universities); CYTED (Ibero‐American Programme of Sciences and Technology).

UAB has several joint/double degrees with European universities (among which, the ERASMUS Mundus Joint European Master in Environmental Studies JEMES, together with Universidade de Aveiro, Alborg University and TUHH), hosts International masters and summer schools, organises visits and internships under different European schemes such as ALFA, Leonardo, Jean Monnet, etc.

The UAB research is divided into research groups, departments, special research centers, institutes and linked themselves, research consortia, scientific and technical services and new technology-based companies. It consists of a core located on the campus of Bellaterra, plus a number of institutes and research centres, Research Park centres and university hospitals linked, which are the Esfera UAB. Ahead in scientific research, promotes interdisciplinary UAB research, technology transfer and transmission of knowledge generated. One of diverse research areas includes Social Sciences.

Dr. José Manuel Pérez Tornero is the research leader on Media literacy and Education in Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación Research Group at Department of Journalism and Communication Sciences.


European Association for Viewer's Interests (EAVI), Belgium (Partner 2 - Beneficiary)

P2 - EAVI - Belgium


EAVI is a not-for-profit organisation based in Brussels, whose mission is to serve public interest in the fields of media and media education. Its primary objective is to promote and enhance viewers’ interests and, more generally, citizens’ and media users’ interests at European level. Particular attention is paid to youth and the protection of children and minors.

Since its establishment in 2005, EAVI has implemented numerous campaigns, studies and projects to promote active citizenship, media literacy and media education. Besides, EAVI engages the European Institutions and has influenced relevant EU policies in the fields of media literacy and media education.

Mr. Paolo Celot is Founding member and Secretary General of EAVI. Within EAVI, the overall responsibility and supervision of the project and its deliverables for the project will be dedicated to him.


University of Minho – Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS), Portugal (Partner 3 - Beneficiary)

The University's mission is to generate, disseminate and apply knowledge, based on the freedom of thought and the plurality of critical thinking, promoting higher education and contributing to construct a model of society based on humanist principles, who has knowledge, creativity and innovation as factors of growth, sustainable development, welfare and solidarity.
The Communication and Society Research Centre is the University research unit that welcomes and supports research in the field of media literacy and education, and defined, in recent years, this dimension as one of its strategic development areas.
Dr. Manuel Pinto leads the Communication and Society Research Centre.
Hungarian Institute for Educational Research and Development (HIERD/OFI), Hungary (Partner 4 - Beneficiary)

P4 - OFI-Hierd - HungaryThe Hungarian Institute for Educational Research and Development (HIERD/OFI) is a public budgetary institution maintained by the Hungarian Ministry of National Resources. It is an institution providing general and strategic support services for the educational sector under the direction of the Ministry. HIERD/OFI offers research and development activities and related services in the fields of pre-school education, public (primary and secondary) education, higher education, vocational training, teacher career, special education, education of ethnic and national minorities, and school-based and non-formal adult education.

The Institute is also supporting medium and long term educational planning in the education sector. In this area it relies on the outputs of research on the social effects of policy decisions and assists policy makers in making well-founded decisions. The responsibilities of the Institute also include preparing analyses of the current educational processes and the probable effects of them as well as participating in international research projects.

Mr. György Jakab leads the overall coordination of the project.



Istituto di Studi Politici Economici e Sociali (EURISPES), Italy (Partner 5 - Beneficiary)


P5 - Eurispes - Italy

The EURISPES Research Institute is a non-profit organization operating since 1982 in Italy and operates as a center of policy and economic research and social training. The Institute carries out studies and research on behalf of businesses, public and private, national and international institutions. At the same time, promotes and supports individual research on topics of social interest, cultural activities, scholarships, publishing initiatives, serving as an independent center for information and guidance of public and major decision areas of Italy.

The Institute operates through specialist internal working groups re-constituted from time to time and involves sometimes outside experts chosen for its recognized expertise in their respective areas. Eurispes has explored the world of education and training through the following themes in Italy: education reform, the cost of education, the university system, school dropout, the education of foreign students, school buildings, new technologies in schools, continuing education, distance education, housing problems of college students. Eurispes has also examined many issues related to communication and information: the freedom of information, new channels of digital information, the crisis in publishing and television, the success of radio, free press, the boom of social networking.

Dr. Marco Ricceri is responsible for the everyday coordination of the Eurispes team. 



School of Communication and Media (SCM), Slovakia (Partner 6 - Beneficiary)


P6 - SKAMPA - Slovakia

The School of Communication and Media (SKAMBA) is a not-for-profit research organisation based in Bratislava, Slovakia. It's mission is to provide education and research in the fields of mass media communication (journalism, PR and public diplomacy) and political sciences. It has started implementation of a large international research project focused on relationship between media and democracy in Europe (7th Framework Programme) in 2010. Previously, it has organised educational courses for journalists and lawyers and carried out various research projects as well as providing expert opinions on media and communication issues, including expert opinions for courts in media matters (protection of honour). SKAMBA has experts who work for major media in Slovakia.

Through its projects, SKAMBA is contributing to improved quality of media and communication in the European public sphere via strengthening skills and exchange of experience and best practices of professionals in media communication and ensuring benefit from use of new ICT tools (new media literacy for media professionals). Their projects aim to explore challenges and promote use of rapidly developing ICT and new software media (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Flicker, Slideshare, Storify, Google chart tools,,,, etc.) for journalists and media professionals.

They explore the opportunities provided by the new technologies and such channels and sources of textual, visual and graphical information and analyses from practical perspectives, thus offering useful and simplified know-how tools. In this way, they contribute to improved quality of post-university lifelong training in media and communication.

Pedagogical University of Krakow –European Center for Lifelong Learning And Multimedia Education (PUK (ECKUM)), Poland (Partner 7 - Beneficiary)


P7 - PUK - Poland

Pedagogical University of Cracow, named after the National Education Commission, is the largest and, according to official rankings, for many years has been the best university in Poland preparing teachers to meet the objectives established in the world undergoing the process of globalization. For 65 years, several generations of the university faculty have been serving Polish education system well, showing genuine concern for the preparation of the graduates in terms of both factual knowledge and pedagogical issues.

European Centre for Lifelong Learning and Multimedia Education (ECKUM) is a non-departamental unit, which coordinates University activities in the field of lifelong learning. The main area of the activity of the Centre focuses on various initiatives and actions leading to the modernization of a widely understood didactic process throughout complete and transparent integration of information - communication technologies in teaching and learning. Tasks carried out by the Centre relate to the broader education of the pedagogical aspects of lifelong learning.

Dr. Barbara Kedzierska is responsible for the overall activities of the PUK.
